Google has earlier this year announced their plans to roll out their VR platform and solution to the world at the Google I/O Conference. They expect to launch this platform in the coming weeks and have made announcements to have Daydream VR included in their smartphones, with the required specs on Android 7.0.
With Google’s ownership in YouTube, the video platform company has teamed up with some major YouTube personalities to release original 360 video content on Daydream VR. Some of the name’s that’ll be participating in this launch will be Justine Ezarik, who vlogs frequently on Youtube and the Dolan twins who create some comical content. Both parties have a large amount of followers and with their paticipation, a large audience will have the chance to spectate 360 videos in virtual reality.
Content has been the Achilles heels to the growth of VR. With Google’s participation in the VR world alongside Youtubers, we’ll soon see some lee-way in growth of 360 video content.
Google’s strategy is a bit more different than HTC and Oculus in that they are targeting the video content community. They want to get more people involved in VR that aren’t yet familiar with the platform. VR is still an expensive technology and they seek to please a large audience with entry level virtual reality headsets.
Look for Google’s VR headsets and controllers to be released soon.
