You Are Here Puts Into Perspective Just How Small We Are Using VR

Humans are fairly sized mammals on planet Earth. We also have the means to transport quickly across the globe using planes, trains, cars, and more. But when we really put the universe into perspective, it’s really hard to comprehend just how small and “slow” we are.
Luckily, You Are Here will allow us to virtually experience the great vastness of our universe. Created by Tesseract Software, you can see exactly where you are. Users will be able to shrink and expand the universe to see where you fit into the big picture. You will even be able to stroll through a sea of hundreds of thousands of stars and galaxies.
Sources for the project
- Star positions, colors, and magnitudes are from the HYG Database. The database is a subset of the data in three major catalogs: the Hipparcos Catalog, the Yale Bright Star Catalog (5th Edition), and the Gliese Catalog of Nearby Stars. There are 119,615 stars in the HYG Database.
- The galaxies are from Data Release 14 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and describes the position and size of 755,649 galaxies.
You Are Here is currently available for HTC Vive users through the Steam marketplace. It is currently offered for just $2.99 so make sure to experience the vastness of our universe.
