There’s been some big stories to come out of the week. Here, we round up the top stories from the last 7 days that you may have missed. One of the bigger stories to break out was Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters who launched his own kickstarter on IndieGoGo called VorTrex.
Jamie Hyneman From Mythbusters is Crowdfunding Virtual Reality Shoes
The famous Jamie Hyneman form Mythbusters has started a new crowdfund project for what he calls the VorTrex virtual reality shoes. Jamie’s goal is to essentially create electric shoes for VR gaming.
On his IndieGoGo campaign, Jamie explains that there were 6 prototype iterations built before launching this campaign. This design will address all of the issues found during prior testing.
Jamie’s history with the virtual reality shoes
Jamie first got started testing the virtual reality shoes back in 1987 where he drilled motors on the back of his roller blades. After his initial on and off tests he met up with a designer named Edmond in 2010 who helped create the concept versions. Then in 2013, they added the first sensors which were placed in the shoes. By 2014, they got their IP registered and started to build the 5th and 6th generation of Vortex in 2016. So now, Jamie is unveiling his gen 7 build to the public and wants to share his ideas with the public.
Linus from Linus Tech Tips is a popular YouTuber who reviews the latest tech and gadgets available on today’s market. With his deep insightful knowledge about computer hardware and software, he was invited to try out and review the Pimax 8K headset.
While the headset has been gaining a lot of positive reviews, Linus provided a more transparent opinion about his experience with the VR headset.
Overall, he thought it was a pretty cool experience even though he feels a little bit nauseated from his short duration using the headset. He believes that there’s a great possibility with the next gen VR headsets such as the Pimax 8K that he demoed.
Can you believe it? Oculus will be offering another amazing sale on their Rift headset this year during Black Friday. The company has provided consumers with awesome deals throughout the year and they look to go out with a bang by offering the Oculus Rift + Touch bundle + 6 VR games for $349.99.
The offering will be available at Best Buy from November 23 – 25th. What we know so far is that the Oculus Rift + Touch bundle will be available in store throughout that 3 day window and guessing the prices will be at $349.99 while supplies last.
Rockstar Games is on the brink of releasing their first VR experience with LA Noire: The VR Case Files. The game was initially set to release in this month in November but has been pushed back until December to make sure they provide users with the best experience possible. Rockstar Games has confirmed with VR AND FUN that this statement is true. “That’s correct, as confirmed in the Take-Two Q2 2018 Earnings Release,” said the spokesperson at Rockstar Games.
In an official statement, Niantic Labs has confirmed that they’ll be releasing a new AR game in the near future called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The company has skyrocketed through their success in launching Pokemon Go just over a year ago which was one of the fastest AR apps to reach $1 billion in revenue. Now they look to tackle another well known franchise with Harry Potter.
Electronic Arts (EA) has just announced an agreement to acquire Respawn Entertainment, the creators of AAA shooter game Titantfall. Currently, Respawn is working on multiple projects with various companies such as Disney, EA, and Oculus in developing AAA content. The company will be releasing a new Titanfall title, a new Star Wars game, and an exclusive VR title for the Oculus Rift.
