The virtual reality industry hasn’t had a unified governing body… until now. With the combined forces of Samsung, Sony, Oculus, HTC, Acer and Google they have created the first GVRA (Global VR Association). With this globally unified association they seek to accomplish the goal of creating standards with hardware and software within the virtual reality space.

“GVRA’s mission is to promote responsible development and adoption of VR globally with best practices, dialogue across stakeholders, and research. GVRA will be a resource for industry, consumers, and policymakers interested in VR.” – GVRA

Many VR games and experiences are currently exclusive to one headset or the other. Without the standards, it’s been a difficult battle uphill to create a push for the VR movement. This will also stand to become a common guideline within the industry according to the newly formed association.

“This group believes in VR’s immense global potential and the opportunities ahead – it will change the landscape of education, training, healthcare, and design, among many other areas. While seeking to educate consumers, governments, and industry about VR’s potential, the association wants to get ahead of challenges with developing and deploying the technology responsibly. That’s why we feel it’s important to bring together international experts across industry to work collaboratively on global education, potential technical challenges, and promoting best practices in the field.” – GVRA

We’ll keep a clear eye for further details in regards to GVRA.
