Mark Zuckerberg has been a huge advocate for VR and 360 technology for years now. He’s demonstrated on stage at the Oculus Connect 3 event the importance of the technology and how VR will be the largest social platform in the coming years. Today, he demonstrated 360 and VR technology to better capture intimate moments such as this.

In the video you’ll find Mark Zuckerberg interacting with his son Max and his dog Beast (who has 2 million followers on Facebook) in his humble abode. With the interactive video you can pan in different directions to grasp the moment and setting in which you’re placed in versus traditional formats that limit you to a certain angle.

“When I was a baby and took my first steps, my mom wrote the date in a baby book. When my sister’s children took their first steps, she recorded it with photos and videos. When Max started walking, I wanted to capture the whole scene with a 360 video so our friends and family can feel like they’re right there with us,” said Mark Zuckerberg.

The video is quite short but it demonstrates the strengths to recording in 360 versus the traditionally formatted videos. It provides a stronger perception of immersion in the moment. Facebook has also announced that they’ll be providing users with the ability to broadcast 360 videos live early next year.
