During the GDC 2017 conference, Unreal Engine had a few updates about their platform. One of the biggest updates was the news in regards to Unreal Engine 4 being supported for game development on the new Nintendo Switch platform.
Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, made the announcement of this new partnership and how developers will have a chance to create games on the Nintendo Switch platform. Unassociated game developers rarely had a chance to create games on Nintendo consoles. But they will now have this rare chance to create worlds of storytelling on the new Nintendo Switch console (which is quite mind-blowing).
We know that Unreal Engine 4 is currently one of the main platforms for developing virtual reality content. But with Nintendo opening their doors to the public, this could be a game changer for the famous franchise. We already know that Nintendo has an awaiting patent on a peripheral headset for the new Switch console. So this partnership between the two companies may lead to Nintendo releasing VR experiences.
While the Switch console might not be as powerful as the Xbox One or the PS4 Pro, it might be able to deliver quality VR experiences above the smartphone grade. This is exciting news and a critical development for the gaming and VR communities.
