Sony has done many things this year to progress the sales of their PlayStation VR headset. Now, they look to bolster that aggressive push to sell even more by offering a free home trial of their PlayStation VR headset.
According to Gamasutra, PlayStation has launched a 14 day PSVR trial program which allows users to test what VR is all about on a PlayStation console. The demo kit comes equipped with a PlayStation VR headset, 2 Move controllers, a camera sensor, and a copy of Skyrim VR.
This new trial program launched on December 1st with 1,400 demo slots available but seems to have filled up rather quickly. On the website it states, “We’re sorry, we have reached the maximum number of users who could sign up to try PlayStation VR. Please check your email for future programs from PlayStation.”
One of the cool benefits about the trial program is that users are able to keep their PSVR demo kits for the price of $300. This PSVR bundle is usually priced around $450 so they are getting quite a steep discount.
No other major VR headset manufacturer has launched an in-home trial program as far as we’re aware of. PlayStation is the first to do so.
If this program becomes a successful business model, look forward to seeing other companies launching an in-home trial of their own. Maybe this will convert more users and enthusiasts into wanting to purchase a premium VR headset.
