Pokemon Go Creators Niantic Acquires VR Game Studio Seismic Games

Niantic is currently on a path to create many amazing AR games. This includes a new title called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite which will bring the wizardry world to life.
Niantic Labs has recently raised over $200 million in a Series B round to help further build out their studio. And with this new found capital they were able to acquire Seismic Games studio, creators of Blade Runner: Revelations which was launched on the Google Lenovo Mirage Solo VR headset.
The Seismic Games studio was founded by veterans from EA/Pandemic and Activision. They have worked on other titles such as Star Wars: Battlefront along with various Marvel games, FoxNext, Sony, Alcon, and more. “Seismic will continue to see through its existing slate of titles in development as it transitions into building all new AR experiences with Niantic,” said Niantic in a press release.
Niantic also provided a sneak peek into their new technology called Niantic Occlusion. This will be one of the technologies the company will be using moving forward. The company seems to have a lot under their belt and they will continue to build out many AR games for the mobile platform in the near future.
They will also continue to partner up with Nintendo in creating various Pokemon experiences.
