Oculus Has Slashed Prices On Their Sensor To $59
Oculus has been making radical changes in the cost of their VR bundle. The company has slashed the price of the Rift headset to $499 and the Touch controllers to $99. That’s $100 off both of those items. Together, the bundle will only cost $598. We’ve also learned that Oculus has slashed their costs on the Sensor.
From it’s original MSRP of $79, the price has dropped to $59 for an individual sensor. And these are permanent cuts on original prices. No, this isn’t a sale, but rather a strategic move to make the VR experience more affordable for the general public.
Additionally, room scale can’t be achieved without the purchase of an individual sensor. In total, you’ll be requiring 3 sensors to achieve room-scale tracking that’s found on the HTC Vive. One sensor will come with the purchase of the Rift headset. Another sensor will come with the purchase of the Touch controller. You must purchase one more to have all three. In total, you’ll be looking around $657 to have the full Rift setup. This however, doesn’t mean you can’t purchase more.
Some people have rigged up multiple sensors for more thorough tracking in the VR space. With this price reduction, it makes it easier on the pocket to purchase additional units. For those that are wanting to equip more than three sensors for the Oculus Rift, we recommend that you read up our guide on how to achieve efficiency with multiple USB plugins on the PC. With inefficient setup, you’ll be quickly draining bandwidth, which can lead to lag and slow response rates.
