Oculus Looks To Make More Ripples In The Exclusives Battle With ARKTIKA. 1
Just last week, Robo Recall was released for the Oculus Rift headset by Epic Games. It is an exclusive AAA VR title, specifically made for the VR company. While there are mods available to where Robo Recall can be played on the HTC Vive, it’s officially a game made for the Rift bundle. With the release of Robo Recall for the Oculus Rift, the news has been creating ripples in the community where many are wondering how much longer “VR exclusives” will last. Well, it’s been unveiled that 4A Games, the studio behind the award-winning Metro series, will be releasing another exclusive title for the Oculus Rift called ARKTIKA. 1.
ARKTIKA. 1 will be a AAA first person shooter VR game, according to 4A Games. You’ll be playing with high-quality mechanics while shooting away at your enemies. The game was designed to compliment the Oculus Touch and its motion tracked technology. The lore for ARKITA. 1 is quite interesting.
Nearly a century in the future – in the aftermath of a silent apocalypse – the planet has entered a new ice age. Only the equatorial regions remain habitable, yet pockets of humanity still manage to survive in small numbers all over the planet. These regions of civilization sit on resource-rich, highly desirable territories to the north and south. As a mercenary hired by Citadel Security, you must protect one of the last colonies in the wastelands of old Russia from violent raiders, marauders, and horrifying creatures.
ARKTIKA. 1 will set you up in a post-apocalyptic society where you’ll face technological and biological horrors that is threatening the life of mankind. 4A Games looks to create a breathtaking world with quality graphics and details in a redefined VR space. 4A Games will be implementing their latest engine for the upcoming VR game.
“This is a major step forward for 4A Games,” said Andriy Prokhorov, the Creative Director and Co-Founder of 4A Games. “ARKTIKA.1 represents all that we have learned about creating life-like environments, implementing responsive shooting mechanics, and delivering exceptional visual fidelity on console and PC. ARKTIKA.1 is likely to be the first AAA shooter built from the ground up for VR, instead of the usual practice of porting from another platform. On top of that, the precision and range offered by Oculus Touch tracked controllers takes realistic shootouts to a whole new level.”
ARKTIKA. 1 is set to release in Q3 of 2017. The price of the VR FPS game hasn’t been announced by 4A Games but we’re predicting that it’ll be in the same ball park as Robo Recall at $29.99. They might make it available for free for Oculus Touch owners like they did with Robo Recall. With ARKTIKA. 1 being another exclusive for Oculus, could this spell trouble for the VR industry?
