During Kim Jong Un’s first known international visit to China since becoming the supreme leader of North Korea in 2011, we got to witness the leader trying on a virtual reality (VR) headset for the first time in public.

Kim Jong Un met up with China’s president Xi Jinping during his visit in Beijing, China’s capital city. There, he got a tour of the advances in technology that China is currently working on which included the VR front. As far as media knows, Kim Jong Un made the visit to China to talk about denuclearization plans and peace talks with South Korea.

We can see Kim Jong Un with his wife Ri Sol Ju trying on a VR headset in front of what looks to be a shipment cargo exhibit. Our best guess is that they are trying some sort of water or submersible based VR experience. We also can’t clearly identify what kind of headset that the couple are trying on but the design looks rather similar to the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR.

The headsets look to be tethered and also use some motion tracking device seen through the sensors on top of the headset. According to Korean Central News Agency, Kim Jong Un praised China and its leader Xi Jinping stating, “Under the wise command of the Communist Party of China, we will achieve better scientific performance.”

Kim Jong Un was reportedly in China between march 25 – 28th.
