Magic Leap seems to finally be making some moves as the company has announced the launch of their Creator Portal and SDK. Developers will have access to the necessary SDK, tutorials, and design guidelines on how to create the digital projects on their platform.
Their LuminSDK will be compatible with both the Unreal Engine and Unity for developers to use. However, this is still branded as a “technical preview” as there still needs to be work done.
Once you download the SDK and get access to the forum, you will be able to communicate with other developers and community members. The Magic Leap platform is quite different than the HMDs we’ve seen before such as the Vive and Rift. You will notice that it uses a specially designed HMD headset along with a power supply and controllers that are unique.
With the tutorials, you will understand how all of it unifies to work together to deliver the immersive AR experience. Magic Leap has stated that they will be shipping their HMDs to developers some time this year in 2018 labeled under “Creators Edition.”
Magic Leap has raised over $2.3 billion dollars at an incredible multi-billion dollar valuation. We expect to see a lot of great things from the company in the near future.
