GhostBusters in virtual reality is coming to life thanks to the team at The Void. This organization is the first of its kind creating technology known as “Hyper Reality,” which combines the physical landscape with the virtual dimension; oh and 5D effects.
The Void uses hyper reality in an environment known as the Void Experience Center (VEC). In this physical space you’ll be able to walk around and explore virtual worlds. Sony has collaborated with The Void to create a VEC experience for the Ghostbusters franchise.
This particular VEC will cover 85,000 square feet of space and let you experience what it’s like to be a ghostbuster. Some may believe it might be a bit of a hoax like laser tag but Ken Bretschneider, the founder and CEO of The Void, reassured fans by saying, “Fans will get to know what it really feels like to be a Ghostbuster.” The Void’s new Ghostbusters VR environment will be located in New York and be publicly open July 1st in Madison Square at Madame Tussauds. You’ll be able to travel through multiple themes and multiple floors throughout the adventure. The experience lasts around 15 minutes and 3 players can enter at a time.
Ghostbuster’s new movie will be launching this year with a brand new cast starring, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. So the customers can expect to see some correlation with the old and new cast of Ghostbusters in this experience.
If this VEC becomes a success, we can expect Hollywood to heavily invest in creating virtual reality experiences that are themed around movies. The Void is looking to open up more VEC’s around the country with Pleasant Grove, Utah. They’ll be opening up a 65,000 sq ft space.
