FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has been one of the most controversial figures in recent time. He has been the key player in trying to overturn the current Net Neutrality rules and has created a flux in many online communities. And due to the public’s ridicule, Ajit Pai hasn’t made a public appearance at the big conventions. But it seems like he’ll be taking stage during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) event taking place in Barcelona on February 26 – March 1.

Ajit Pai will be a part of 2 official keynote events. The first one will be taking place on Monday, February 26th where they will be discussing the topic of digital policies and how it affect the citizens.

They will focus on theses primary points:

• The short and long-term goals associated with recent regulatory activities

• The challenges being faced by mobile telecoms executives who are responsible for making major investment decisions

• Emerging policy topics fueled by the rapid growth and evolution of the digital ecosystem, and the conditions that are likely to generate the best social and economic outcomes

The other keynote speakers that will be joining him on stage will be Timotheus Höttges (CEO of Deutsche Telekom AG), Andres Ansip (European Commission), Vittorio Colao (Vodafone Group CEO), and Dr. Jim Yong Kim (World Bank Group President).

The second keynote that Ajit Pai will be a part takes place on Tuesday, February 27th. It is listed as an invite only program. The keynote will touch on the subject of how authorities devise new ways to design, implement and measure the effectiveness of regulatory approaches in telecom regulations.

The keynote speakers that will join him on this stage includes Germán Darío Arias Pimienta (Commision for Communications Regulation, Colombia, Executive Director), Ed Richards (Flint Global Managing Partner), Umar Garba Danbatta (Nigerian Communications Commission CEO), Ram Sewak Sharma (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman).

While these are important subjects, Ajit Pai may not discuss the subject of Net Neutrality and how it’ll affect the millions of citizens around the U.S. This is Ajit Pai’s first appearance at one of the more notable conventions in 2018 and it doesn’t even take place on U.S. soil. Rather, it seems as though Ajit Pai wants to avoid attending tech conventions that take place in the United States.

The FCC commissioner has cancelled his appearance at CES 2018 this year in Las Vegas after facing the harsh criticisms from US citizens. He is currently under investigation for possible collusion with Sinclair Broadcasting. His attendance at a US tech convention this year has yet to be announced.
