Twitter has been very vocal about being an innovator in the social tech space. The company has actually put together a team to focus on emerging technologies such as VR and AR as they are starting to rise in the marketplace. Back in June of 2016, Twitter announced the hire of Allesandro Sabatelli who was the CEO of IXOMOXI (VR startup) and former employee at Apple. But Sabatelli has tweeted out that he will be departing the company.
After three and a half years I'm moving on from Twitter (actual elapsed time 18 months). It's been an incredible ride and I've had the great pleasure to work alongside some amazing people! Together we managed to ship product while having fun. Thanks everyone #👊 pic.twitter.com/i0v9P9clrK

Sabatelli stated, “After three and a half years I’m moving on from Twitter (actual elapsed time 18 months). It’s been an incredible ride and I’ve had the great pleasure to work alongside some amazing people! Together we managed to ship product while having fun. Thanks everyone #pound.”
During his time, we saw the Twitter team work with companies and organizations such as the NBA in launching immersive 360 VR content. But we didn’t hear much about branded hardware nor software that’s native to Twitter. Rather, we saw companies such as Snapchat and Facebook innovating the social space with immersive VR/AR products.
Twitter has yet to announce who will be replacing Sabatelli as the Director of VR/AR or if they will even make a new higher for that position. Updates to follow.
