One of the first Windows mixed reality headsets to release will be the Dell Visor. Starting tomorrow, October 17th, Dell has announced that they’ll be shipping their Visor HMD globally to customers. The Dell Visor is listed at $349 USD for the headset and $99.99 USD for the Windows motion sensor controller. The bundle together will be offered at $449.99 USD.
The Dell Visor will come equipped with 6DoF and a 1440 x 1440 resolution per eye at 90Hz refresh rates. The headset itself is a blend of new and familiar designs we see today with other available headsets. It has the front visor at the top which resembles the PlayStation VR headset. It was made to cushion the forehead for those looking for comfort.
On the front of the headset are 2 cameras for inside out tracking. Dell was able to use the same tracking technology from the Microsoft Hololens. This eliminates the need for external cameras and sensors to track your motion. The headset also features a flip-up visor that many people have been wanting on a headset. This allows you to conveniently see in front of you without having to remove the headset completely.
On the back of the headset is a thumbwheel which was designed for quick and easy adjustments to fit any head size. It also helps with weight balance.
The headset will come with 3 different ports:
1 X HDMI 2.0
1 X USB 3.0
1 X 3.5mm Audio Jack
The Dell Visor in total weighs around 1.3lbs (.59Kg) which makes it lightweight for your head. In order to operate the headset, you will need a VR ready PC that runs Windows 10. There are many options to choose from and you can find the list here.
Dell Visor users will be bale to access games and experiences on the Windows Mixed Reality Store and will also be able to access SteamVR. There will be a slate of exclusive experiences available such as Halo VR.
The Dell Visor is available for pre-order today on Dell and Best Buy. You can find the Visor on Dell UK and PC World for those in that region. If you are curious to see how the headset operates, make sure to pick one up.
