VR and AR Consoles
The Oculus Rift is the pioneer in moving the virtual reality community forward from it’s prehistoric state. Starting a few years back with the initial backing of Kickstarter, it was an amateur trying to tackle the titan which is VR. But with some progressions in the industry, it was acquired by Facebook. The social media titan spent $2 billion in acquiring this company to make it a force in not only the virtual reality industry but in the gaming and technology industry as well.
Currently, the Oculus Rift is set to launch on March 28, 2016. The starting price is set at $599 with some other requirement being that you need a powerful computer.
The Oculus Rift requires a CPU to operate. Here are some of the recommended specs for the PC.
When the first units ship, there will be multiple games available to play with a few franchise names like EVE – Valkyrie.
The competitors of the Oculus Rift are HTC Vive ($799) and Playstation VR ($399).
Oculus Rift looks to be a game changer in the gaming industry with the ability to play video games in new and adventurous ways. With a 360 degree perspective, there’s no denying that people will be intrigued of this VR headset console.
Also, being that Oculus Rift is owned by Facebook, look for the unit to have some exclusive ways to interact with the VR community in a virtual social space. It might have the potential to create a Facebook 2.0 of some sort.
The Oculus Rift is a special company and we look forward to working with them to deliver the latest and greatest in virtual reality!
What is it?
HTC Vive is a VR headset console that’s dedicated to bring you the latest and greatest games in virtual reality. HTC being a manufacturer of goods such as smart phones and tablets, they have their way and sense in creating/developing iconic hardware. So they took a risk and developed this device which surely promises to be a pioneer in the virtual reality space.
With the ever expanding VR industry, HTC has clinched one of the top spots in the VR industry. It’ll directly compete against the likes of the Oculus Rift in many ways and facets (Pricing, quality, games, content, etc.).
How its different
Unlike the Oculus Rift, HTC will give you the opportunity to roam. It isn’t a stationary system that’ll require you to stay stagnant. Rather, the Vive gives you the option to explore the space around you. So if you were to play this in your room, the room itself will setup boundaries and take into account your roaming space. This is unlike any modern gaming system in terms of roaming aspect.
The HTC Vive unit also comes with trackers that detect your motion which is why it’s able to set boundaries in your surroundings.
The controllers are also very different. They act as hands in the virtual reality world and give a sense of freedom towards your movement and abilities in taking action.

HTC Vive has partnered up with Steam (a major gaming platform) to deliver games onto the console. This partnership will allow exclusive content to debut on the HTC Vive and challenge anyone in the VR console world.
So to start off with, imagine playing games such as counter-strike on this device. It’d be out of this world as it would require you to truly participate as your first person shooter character. Whether you’re hopping around, planting bombs, or saving hostages, you will be immersed deeper into this game compared to a traditional play-through on the CPU. Also, the performance levels will be highly shifted. World-class pro gamers may not perform well in virtual reality systems.
This unique partnership will also compel gaming companies to expand against the horizon. Gaming companies will be more dedicated in delivering hit games on to a virtual reality systems, specifically the HTC Vive.

What is Playstation VR?
Playstation VR unit dedicated to bring virtual reality to the Sony Playstation console. It’s set to launch in October 2016, which is a lot later than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. But Playstation already has millions of customers using it’s product which can make it the most popular VR headset console this year. The price point is set at $399 excluding some key components you need to use Playstation VR.
In addition to the Playstation VR headset, you will need the sensor (Playstation Move), the controllers (Playstation Move Controllers), and also the PS4 itself which will bring the final cost up to around $800-$900 dollars. So the price point is not much different to the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive, which is significantly higher than a traditional console.
But the creation of Playstation VR allows it to stay competitive in the newer technology of gaming.
Playstation VR not only is trying to tackle VR games but it wants to allow users to experience surreal experiences such as going into space, climbing mountains, exploring the ocean, and more.
There seems to be many possibilties with the Playstation VR headset and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for this console.
